The American Tourister brand have been making suitcases for the last 80 years, and have a reputation for durability, reliability and affordable quality. They also make cases that are functional and look good, which is something everyone wants to have, no matter how frequently they travel.
I wanted to see if they carried on in this vain, with their new Supreme Spinner 21 carry-on case. The following American Tourister Luggage Ilite Supreme Spinner 21 Review, was written with the aim of informing buyers about the pro's and con's of owning a carry-on like this.
Features of the American Tourister Luggage Ilite Supreme Spinner 21
The following are some of the common features that you must know:
Durable and Lightweight
Suitcases and carry-ons are traditionally made out of hard plastic, metal, nylon or leather, but American Tourister have shown themselves to be ahead of the curve once again, by constructing the Elite Supreme Spinner out of 1200 denier Polyester. The word 'denier' is in reference to the thickness of the yarn used, with 600 denier polyester, being used in the manufacture of reinforced plastic.
As 1200 denier is twice the thickness of that, what buyers are getting here is a carry-on case that will prove to be incredibly strong and durable. Another benefit of using polyester is that it's also a very lightweight material, and as such American tourister where able keep the weight of the Supreme Spinner down to 7.8 pounds. For a case that measures 14.5 inches by 8.5 inches by 21 inches, this really is an excellent achievement.
Easy Upright Roll
Another excellent decision was to have 4 wheels, so the Supreme Spinner 21 can roll upright, distributing weight evenly which assists in its durability. Due to the upright roll, the Supreme Spinner, also doesn't fall over when left to stand, which will be a source of relief for many travellers, as nothing is more annoying than constantly picking up a suitcase.
The wheels are interesting as they are multi-directional, which means turning corners is much easier, because the wheels will simply swivel into position for the direction you're going. Four wheeled cases are able to roll beside you, instead of being dragged behind you, and this will provide travellers with the increased security and piece of mind, that they'll be able to see their case at all times.
The four wheeled upright roll makes the Supreme Spinner a very easy carry-on case to move around, and their inclusion is not surprising, due to American Tourister's long-standing emphasis on ease of operation.
It should however be pointed out, that 4 wheeled cases have to be held onto tightly because of their tendency to roll away, although the handles are well-cushioned and therefore are not uncomfortable to hold.
The Supreme Spinner comes in at just below the maximum size for carry-on luggage, which means buyers will have the absolute most space allowable to pack anything they can't fit in their suitcase, or need for the long airplane ride. They will also be pleased that the polyester fabric used in the design, expands outwardly, so you get even more space than many other carry-on.
Buyers will also be pleased to know that the Supreme is fully-lined. Lining adds protection for the items inside, and generally hides seams, making case's look more presentable and stylish.
Top and Side handles
The Ilite Supreme Spinner 21 has strong handles integrated into the case, on the side and at the top, and this integration not only makes for a stylish look, but also increases functionality as they provide a solution for one of the major drawbacks in carry-on luggage design, When you're walking onto a plane, in its tight, cramped environment, and begin to move down the aisles between seats, carry-on luggage with handles only on the top, can be very awkward to hold upright.
With the Ilite Supreme, you simply turn it on its side, and use the handle there, for a much easier experience. Another advantage of multiple handles to buyers, is that when your pulling your case out of the overhead compartment it'll be on its side, so you'll be able to just grab it, rather than switching it around first, to access the top handle.
There are two pockets on the front of the case for extra packing space, and both have zipper closures. These pockets are well-designed, and are large, so they offer the kind of space travellers need for the return journey,
When they often have more items to pack than they did when they left home. The pockets are strong enough to hold all but the heaviest of items and are easy to open without things falling out.
Dobby machines raise and lower materials to create patterns, and in this case, a faint check design can be seen, making the case look less monotone than other carry-on.
American Tourister make fun stylish cases that look good, and the Supreme Spinner 21 is no exception to this rule. Available in five colors: Seaport Blue, Black, Sapphire Blue, Honeysuckle, and Purple; the Supreme also has a hint of dobby on it.
The zippers are strong, the stitching is professionally done, and it's wonderfully designed for strength, though the wheels could have been a little tighter for greater control, and this might have been something they could have thought about in the design.

While it can only be spot cleaned, and the wheels can run away from you, American Tourister must be applauded for doing all the important things right. Their finished product is very lightweight at 7.8 pounds, but by using 1200 denier polyester, the material is thick enough to be durable, unlike most other lightweight carry-on cases. With theft at airports on the rise, buyers will like the fact that the Supreme can roll beside them, so they can keep an eye on their belongings at all times.
They'll also like the fold-out handle which makes it less stressful to hold, the swivelling wheel for easy turns around corners, and that the Supreme is free standing. With expandable material and large pockets, the capacity here is immense, and the excellent color choice will be welcomed. Overall, this is a big achievement in luggage design, that takes ease of operation to the next level. The Verdict: Well worth buying.
